Came out of the theatre visibly shaken. Reason, well '3' is one heck of a movie. If we tried to imagine what the movie could be like after 'raging' in a song like 'why this kolaveri' then I am sure we would have all got it grossly wrong.
The best part is the movie is not around the song, which it so easily could have been. Thalaivar's daughter has handled it like ‘masterchef’. If I was in Pluto until today and suddenly landed in the theatre playing '3', I wouldn’t have known that it was the Kolaveri song. But this is only as insignificant as it can get. Guys, it is an important song, certainly not a misfit and has a purpose (sorry state of Indian movies I have to mention this).
Until interval we are so engrossed in the school time, college time, pre-marriage, post-marriage, pre-love, falling in love, and happy in love, Shruthi and Dhanush. While standing in the long queue for a box of butter popcorn is when a question pops up, 'why is this movie named 3?'
I am fan of Dhanush and after this movie, yet again I am proud that I am his fan. And yes I am a crazy fan who wouldn’t mind climbing up his cut-out and pour milk for the first day of next movie. I would do it for Thalaivar any day, now so be it for his son-in-law. Oh man, what a performance!! Every scene, not acting for fame but to show how any normal human being would express. I really don't want to or can't write anything more on his performance in this movie. I think it is best when everyone experiences his acting oneself.
You see Shruthi Hassan and you would feel for her. She has made us see beyond her acting, sit beside her and feel what the character was actually going through. Love, happiness, relief, anger, pain etc., all into one small tiny package and delivered in pristine condition. It is a lovable performance and well suited for such a lovely character and no wonder Ram (Dhanush in the movie) is crazy about her.
Can weddings happen in pubs? I would say 'Why not?' But the best part is their wedding photo is actually a snapshot of both of them in the pub. Shruthi walks into the bedroom to Dhanush on their first night in three quarters jeans and a simple (black, I think) top and yes, the sacred thread carrying the 'thali' around her neck. It looks so real and honest.
There are several scenes in the movie which so subtly carries the strong (No, not message, because I don't think this movie is about any message) emotions. The bike ride scene, Dhanush's father played by Prabhu and his way of showing love for his son etc. are to mention just a few, maybe 1 % of the entire movie.
Yes I loved the movie and was deeply moved watching it. So I wanted to express it someway, so I have in one way I know. 3 is an oxymoron, i.e subtly strong, in how it’s been made and bipolar in what effect it leaves on you.
